An immersive art installation at St Pete’s The Dali offered a new way to see Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces. Booking tickets with excitement, we waited for our 50% capacity slot. The exhibit features more than 3,000 Van Gogh images at larger than life scale, synchronized to the music while projected on large screens. The claim is that you will feel as if you are in the painting. The reality was a little different for me.

While his famous “Starry Night,” “Sunflowers” and others are always beautiful, they seemed to lose something for me. Digitizing the artwork seemed to take the masterpieces away from Van Gogh’s intention rather than embrace it.
The exhibit is a good art history lesson of his life and works produced during each stage. But the actual works need to be viewed in a different format to be fully appreciated.
With that said The Dali’s permanent exhibit was amazing and highly recommended!
